At CB&GCW, it's all about sun, fun, and learning at the POSITIVE Place for Kids!  Our Summer Program is open to children ages 5-18, and is open from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., June 22nd to August 14th.  Registration is limited, so make sure to sign up soon!

Programs & Clubs

Character & Leadership Development
Youth of the Month
Three members will be selected monthly for their good behavior.  They will receive prizes such as certificates, they'll have the ReelDeal "documentary crew" follow them around for a day, and they have the opportunity to go on a free field trip.

Torch Club
This program allows Juniors to have a say in their club, and encourages civic involvement.  They elect officers and work collectively to be agents of change, awareness, & insight.

Keystones/Teen Advisory Board
This program allows teens to elect officers, mentor younger members, market and execute fundraising ideas, as well as work collectively to be agents of change, awareness & insight.

Education & Career Development
PAWs for Reading
The Club has paired up with the Northeast Branch Library & Carolina Canines for a wonderful opportunity to improve members' reading skills.

ClubTech
The children use the computer technology lab daily to complete homework assignments, research topics of interest, and play learning games.

ReelDeal Film Program
Members will learn film terms, how to use a video camcorder, learn the art of moving images with ClayTech, produce documentaries about Youth of the Month recipients and the Club, and much, much more!

Health & Life Skills
Nutritious Meals Program
Children are provided a snack, as well as lunch.  Additionally, the full-service Canteen will also provide additional food options for every youth at minimal rates.

SMART Moves
SMART Moves teaches strategies to avoid drugs and sex, and allows children to openly & freely express themselves, ask questions, gain self-confidence & increase positive decision-making skills.

Triple Play
This program seeks to actively educate & engage the children in the fight against obesity through nutritional & physical education, taking a full "mind, body & spirit" approach.

Sports/Recreation
Our Club has five intramural sports teams (basketball, baseball, football, soccer & volleyball) and more than fifty recreational activities.

The Arts
Arts & Crafts
Coloring, Painting, Ceramics, Clay Projects, Origami, Arts & Crafts at the Library, and so much more.

Drum & Drill
Drum & Drill allows our members to express themselves with percussion, step, and dance.

Photography Club
 Members will learn the basics of photography & travel to a variety of locations to practice and develop their skills.


Field Trip Descriptions

Mayfaire Cinema
Members will travel to Mayfaire Cinema, located at 900 Town Center Drive in the Mayfaire Shopping Area, where they will attend a movie showing.  ($6 & does not include refreshments)

TenPin Bowling
Bowling, anyone?  2 games of bowling, shoes, 2 slices of pizza & unlimited drinks at 127 S College Rd #1.  ($6.00)

Jelly Beans Family Skate Center
Find us gliding over the skate floor at Jelly Beans Family Skate Center this summer (located at 5216 Oleander Drive)!  Includes slice of pizza and beverage.  ($6.00)

Fort Fisher Aquarium
Located in Kure Beach at Loggerhead Road, Fort Fisher Aquarium will offer a variety of programs for our youth.  Also offered and included in price is a trip to SharkBites for a bite to eat!  Chips, Rice Krispy treat & juice box come with your sandwich (ham and cheese, turkey, pimento cheese, or bologna and cheese). ($9.35)

Jungle Rapids Waterpark (& Go-Karts for Teens!)
Get wet-n-wild at Jungle Rapids Waterpark this summer (5320 Oleander Drive).  On the agenda are Million Gallon Wavepool, Lazy River, Kiddie Splash & much more!  Teens will also be able to experience a ¼ mile of treacherous turns & banking hairpins on the Grand Prix Go-Kart track!  ($14.95 for Cadets & Juniors & $20.95 for Teens)

Cape Fear Riverboat Sightseeing Cruise
The HENRIETTA III departs from Water & Dock Streets and has pizza lunch onboard.  ($11 for Juniors & $14 for Teens)

Ripley’s Aquarium
Who is ready for Myrtle Beach?  1110 Celebrity Circle in Myrtle Beach to be exact.  Learn about the world’s oceans through a number of fun, hands-on activities.  Includes lunch.  ($12.50 for Juniors & $19.50 for Teens)

Ice House Ice Skating
Any future figure skaters on our hands?  We’ll find out when we travel to Ice House, 7201 Ogden Business Lane.  Price includes drink & pizza or hotdog.  ($8)

Wrightsville Beach
Fun in the sun at Wrightsville Beach!  Don’t forget your sunscreen.  (Free)

Juniors (10-12) & Cadets (5-9) only

Poplar Grove Plantation “Touch of History” & “Touch of Nature”
Poplar Grove Plantation, 10200 US Hwy 17N, provides a variety of programs for youth.  Our Juniors will experience a “Touch of History”, which includes a tour of the manor house with costumed guide, visiting with two interpretive crafts-people, and a hayride.  Our Cadets will experience a “Touch of Nature”, which includes visiting two interpretive crafts-people, visiting farm animals, and a hayride.  Both groups will take a picnic lunch.  ($5)

Collage Boxes @ Library
Be creative!  Learn collage techniques and decorate a box in your own unique way.  Supplies are provided.  (Free)

Loop Weaving @ Library
They can make belts, bookmarks or other craft projects through loop weaving.  (Free)

Teens (13-18) only

Raleigh Museum of History
Brush up on African-American history in North Carolina with a trip to Raleigh (5 E. Edenton St). (Free)

Gaming @ Library
Want to try out Wii or other games?  Come with us to Gaming at the Library!  (Free)

College Tours
Prepare yourself for the future by going on some of our local and nearby college tours.  (Free)

Juniors (10-12) only

MarineQuest “Physical Oceanography”
This MarineQuest adventure includes Physical Oceanography taught at Wrightsville Beach using boogie boards. ($11)

“Be Michelangelo” @ Library
Experience painting in a whole new way at the library.  (Free)

Coil Pot Making @ Library
Express yourself with clay!  (Free)

Children’s Museum
The Children’s Museum offers exciting exhibits, such as Animal Adventures & Teddy Bear Hospital.  ($9)

“Pier Into the Ocean”
Takes place at Kure Beach, where members will learn about fish & how to catch them, hold live marine life, learn about the blue crab & sift through the sands in search of ancient shark’s teeth.  Includes pizza & lemonade lunch.  ($16)

Myrtle Waves Waterpark
Let’s get soaked in Myrtle Beach at Myrtle Waves (Hwy 17 & Mr. Joe White Ave).  Includes lunch.  ($31.27)

Storytime @ Library
Experience the joy of reading at the library during storytime.  (Free)

Important Note for Plan Bs & Plan C
When paying the remainder over the first 4 weeks of camps, please abide by the following deadlines for each week: Fridays June 26, July 3, July 10, July 17

Payment Plans for Regular Campers:
Plan B: $225 down payment with the remaining $100 paid over the first 4 weeks at a rate of $25 a week.
Plan C: $125 down payment with the remaining $200 paid over the first 4 weeks at a rate of $50 a week.

Payment Plans for Year-Round School Campers:
Plan B: $140 down payment with the remaining $100 paid over the first 4 weeks at a rate of $25 a week.

Payment Plans for Early Bird Campers:
Plan B: $225 down payment with the remaining $160 paid over the first 4 weeks at a rate of $40 a week.

* Failure to pay on time in accordance to the payment plan you selected will result in your child’s dismissal from the summer program. NO REFUNDS.


Additional Information

Late Arrival Fees: $1 per minute that parents are late picking up their children. This will begin at 5:31pm.

Field Trips: Field Trips are not included in summer registration fee. See Field Trip Guide and Pricing Information for more details.

Transportation: Transportation will be provided free of charge for campers living in Public Housing. There will be a fee of $30 per week for pick-up and drop-off transportation anywhere else in Wilmington.
